STIs & Sexual Health

Pregnancy is not the only thing to be concerned about after having sex. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) are common.

Some Sexually Transmitted Infections can be cured. Some cannot.

Human Papillomavirus(HPV) is the primary cause of cervical cancer. At least 50 percent of sexually active men and women acquire genital HPV infection at some point in their lives. Most HPV infections have no signs or symptoms; therefore, most people are unaware they are infected.

Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are the most frequently reported bacterial sexually transmitted infections in the United States. The greater the number of sex partners, the greater the risk of infection. Even if a woman has symptoms, the symptoms can be mistaken for a bladder or vaginal infection.

Genital herpes is a common sexually transmitted disease that any sexually active person can get. Most people with the virus don’t have symptoms. Even without signs of the disease, herpes can still be spread to sex partners.
